Synagogue life is the lifeblood of Jewish life. Without a synagogue, Jewish
life would fade away. With this belief, Temple Torah of West Boynton Beach,
invites you to visit and became a member of the Temple Torah Family Congregation.
We are a Conservative Egalitarian temple that welcomes all to its place of
worship.
Temple Torah observes conservative traditions and our services are filled
with song and words of wisdom that create an atmosphere of warmth and learning.
We hold Friday evening, Shabbat morning services as well as morning and evening
minyans...
Due to our successful education programs, we are building the Campus of Jewish
Learning. It will hold the Wiston
Family Torah Tots School which has won
many awards, a growing and outstanding Religious
school, a broad based
award winning Adult Education program and a Holocaust Learning Center dedicated
to research and remembrance. We provide a variety of programs for the children
in our Pre-Kadima, Kadima and USY programs. Also, we have many volunteer
opportunities so members can find further social, educational and leadership
experiences to enrich your life, Our Men’s Club and Sisterhood are active
and create both religious and social programs throughout the year.
All in all, Temple Torah is a place that has meaningful services, activities and social and educational options for all ages.
There is a new energy here at Temple Torah and we invite you to be part of
it.
The year of change at Temple Torah continues to move at a rapid pace. In my February Shofar article I discussed the Temple’s Board of Director’s decision not to enter negotiations with Hazzan Dardashti for a renewal of his contract which expires on July 31, 2010 and the resignation of Mitch Turk, the Religious School principal, to be effective no later than May 31, 2010.
After reviewing the Religious School situation, the Board of Directors determined that it would be in the best interest of the students to not have the uncertainty of the date of Mr. Turk’s departure hanging over the school. Effective January 29, 2010 Rabbi Nathan Rose was named the interim Principal for the remainder of the 20092010 school year. Rabbi Rose was appointed only as the interim principal because his contract with Temple Torah expires on June 30, 2010.
For those who are not familiar with Rabbi Rose’s background, he was the principal of Religious Schools in New York and New Jersey for over 21 years. He has a Masters in Jewish Education and is a Nationally Licensed Jewish School Principal. He holds a New York State license as a Jewish Educator. He is extremely qualified to run our Esther and Simon Adler Religious School and Sheila and Marvin Horowitz High School.
The Board has received a great deal of feedback on the decision regarding Hazzan Dardashti. Rather than try to give all of the details of this decision in the Shofar, I have decided to exercise the right of the President to call a general membership meeting on Thursday March 18, 2010 where the issue will be discussed. Besides the Hazzan discussion, there are a number of other issues which are important that the Congregation be informed of. These include the Temple’s financial condition, the decline in membership, cost cutting steps that have been implemented, proposed changes to the Temple’s Constitution, new policies regarding Shabbat services and the possibility of a new tenant for the second floor of the education wing.
At the March 18, meeting there will be a report from the Strategic Planning Committee which is looking at the alternatives to be considered for the Hazzan’s position, the Hebrew School principal position, and a number of other responsibilities related to these two positions. A report will, also, be given by the Ad Hoc Committee which is going to be recommending changes to the Temple’s Constitution.
I truly believe that any member who is concerned about the future of Temple Torah should make every effort to attend the March 18, meeting.
